Weekend Wine Review Chateau Mongravy Margaux 2014

By
Industry Observer

Actually we had a french wine on Saturday too but it was a Chablis, I chose this wine to review as we had it yesterday in celebration of the French winning the world cup yesterday. This was a very good wine but I think it will be better in 2 or 3 years as it was a little tight even with decanting and letting it breathe.  The has a very deep dark purple color, it is very intense with toasty taste with deep blackberries and tart dark raspberries, a hint of green in it. The finish is very long on the mouth, the aromas are very rich and dark deep fruit. It paired well with our weekly steak, salad and sweet potatoes.

Hi

I didn't see the match yesterday and had to Google the results a short while ago. I truly thought Croatia would beat France. Who knows, maybe the game with England did them in. cheers cvc

Love reading wine reviews.  I tend to stick with things I know and not venture too far from that without inside knowledge.  Thanks for sharing yours.

Yolanda this is a wine I would not open yet, just my two cents maybe a couple years or more down the road, Margaux's usually need to sit 6-10 years before you touch them otherwise they will be a bit rough:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. You are right we did let it breathe it was still tight but that was the only French wine we had besides champagne and was not in the mood for that!
