Did you know that the Ennis House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Los Angles is for sale?

For the past couple of weeks, I have been meaning to write about this sale, because our good friend  Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland    likes Frank Lloyd Wright homes. Over the years, I have written a few blog posts about this great home. Many years ago the house was falling on disrepair and the Foundation tried to sell it for around $15 million dollars. Then Billionaire Ron Burkel bought it for south of $5 million dollars in 2011. He spent depending on who you talk to anywhere from 12-17 million dollars fixing it up. I considered it a good deed. It would have been such a shame letting it further deteriorate.

Interestingly, I sold a home a few years ago which was just a couple homes from this great historic home. My client’s wife was not so thrilled about having this huge historic home next door from them. The reasons were many and one of them was of course the tourist traffic. Needless to say the views to Downtown Los Angeles trumped the concern😊.

Now if you are wondering what the asking price is? Well for what it is I might say it is a bargain at $23 million dollars. The owner will basically break even when he sells it. Now let’s be honest that is not so bad if you are a billionaire and you did this good deed to preserve a historic home for future generations. Besides getting a fixed up and well maintained historic home you get with it the best views in Los Angeles and the living area is about 6000 sq. ft. and let’s not forget a Guest Quarters above the detached garage is not something to complain about.

Now if you are interested in purchasing this Historic Home please reach out to me directly for proper representation.

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. - Always enjoyed visiting Frank Lloyd Wright homes.  The Arizona Biltmore design was inspired and influenced by FLW. This home reminds me of the Biltmore.

Endre Barath, Jr. I do love FLW and the homes he inspired. But his homes NEED some space... not possible in LA. Thanks for the mention.

Endre,

We too are huge fans of Frank Lloyd Wright.  And we have toured the Ennis house.  Recently we stayed at the AZ Biltmore in Phoenix which was designed by one of his students Albert Chase Mac Arthur and he was the consultant on the project.  I even shared a post about ti.  A

One of the features of this house is the 'textile block' that was used not only on the exterior but inside as well.  Variations of the block face were cast -- the idea being it would be a modular component that would save money and be low maintenance. The block was made out of a concrete compound that has weathered rather well but has cracked in many places.

Wright used the Textile Block idea on several of his designs and his son, Lloyd Wright built this one:
