Is this really Planet Earth?
I have been to some very strange looking places in my life but this area took me by surprise.
Several years ago one of my nephews named Donny that lives in Alaska brought us up to Hatcher Pass located approx 20 miles north of Wasilla. There is a old historical abandoned mine at Hatcher Pass along with Red Cabins for snow skiing and winter activities.
When we first arrived at Hatcher Pass I was snapping photos of the Red Cabins and mountains. Then my Donny said let's go to another place you really have to see ...
So we drove up a dirt road up the mountain that peaks out and then leads down to the main road going to Fairbanks. When we got to the top of the pass Donny said if you take these hiking trails up around 2 miles you will come to several small mountain ponds and it's great for photographs. We didn't hike that day because the sun was setting and it was very cold around 30 degrees with high winds at 8000+ feet elevation.
So the next day me and the boys went for a hike. When we were up there it was so quite that you could hear your heart beating along with total silence. It was very strange looking up there like a world I have never seen before, and for a moment I imagined being on another planet.
If you ever get the chance to visit Alaska and drop into Anchorage, drive 40 miles north to Wasilla and ask anyone in town where Hatcher Pass is. Drive up to Hatcher Pass and when you get to the Red Cabins look north and you will see cars & trucks driving up a dirt road. Take that road up around 1-2 miles, park and hike up a steep trail another mile or so to several small mountain ponds ... You will be AMAZED ;o)
