Charlotte's 2018 Homegrown Tomato Festival: July 28th
If you love tomatoes, be sure to make time for Charlotte's Homegrown Tomato Festival this Saturday, July 28th! The Festival takes place from 1:00 pm till 5:00 pm at the NODA Brewing Company. The Homegrown Tomato Festival, a very popular annual event here in Charlotte, doesn't just tickle your taste buds, but also supports a great cause: 100 Gardens, a Charlotte-based 501c3 that teaches agriculture and aquaponics in local schools
The event is being MC'd by my friend, Ray Terry (who remodeled my kitchen for me 20 years ago in the first home we owned in Charlotte). Ray is the host of About Your House on WFNZ 601 AM and 102.5 FM. The tomato themed event lets tomato lovers taste dozens of varieties of backyard tomotoes, buy locally grown tomatoes, crown the region’s best tomato grower, enjoy live music, vendors, and more. Community historian and Charlotte Observer columnist, Tom Hanchett, will be present to provide tales of the origin of the tomato, while Dalton Espaillat of Sabor Latin Street Grill and Dan Huntley will be cooking tomato dishes on-site.
Tickets are $5-10 each. You can buy Homegrown Tomato Festival tickets on-line or purchase them at the door.
