Isaac Merritt was born in Pittstown, New York back in 1811. This is another one where I do not have any information on his early years. What I can tell you is that he obtained his first patent in 1839. That one invention secured his financial success, so he opted to return to his other love.
He wanted to be an actor so he went on tour forming a troupe called the “Merritt Players”. This lasted for 5 years before inventing something else in 1849. He showed his invention at the machine shop of Orson C. Phelps in 1850. While there he observed another device that he thought he could improve on, so in 1851 he obtained US Patent number 8294 for his improvements for the device. That one invention alone is still associated with the family and forever put him in the history books.
He died in 1875, at the time of his death his net worth was approximately 1/709th of the US GNP. If you haven’t figured it out, I’m writing about Isaac Merritt Singer, the inventor of the Singer Sewing Machine. Until tomorrow my wish is for you to have a lot of smiles to give away to those who needs them
