2018 NATIONAL NIGHT OUT IN CHARLOTTE, NC REGION
National Night Out Against Crime 2018 will be observed on Tuesday, August 7th throughout the Charlotte metro area/region. For this occasion, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) is asking all area residents to leave their porch lights on from 7:00 till 10:00 pm to show support for this event.
Held on the first Tuesday in August, #National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), founded in 1981, and now considered the nation’s premiere, non-profit crime prevention organization dedicated to the promotion of crime prevention in communities across the nation.
5 Things To Know About National Night Out
The City of Charlotte has supported National Night Out for over 25 years. This year there will be over 70 events happening throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg neighborhoods. On National Night Out, participating neighborhoods will have organized activities such as block parties, cookouts, porch sit-ins, ice cream socials to demonstrate their support of “no tolerance” for crime. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) has committed to having a presence at each NNO event registered with the City.
The concept behind the National Night Out program is to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
- Generate support within local communities for crime prevention.
- Strengthen police community relations, as well as relationships amongs residents of neighborhoods.
- Send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.
