SIX WAYS TO PREVENT YOUR BIKE FROM BEING STOLEN

It only takes a few seconds for an experienced thief to steal your bicycle, even if it’s locked. Here are 6 tips for protecting your bike against theft from Montgomery County Police:

1) Invest in a quality U-shaped lock

Hammers, bolt cutters and metal saws are some of the tools used by thieves to easily break inexpensive locks. Make it more difficult for them by protecting your bike with two locking systems such as a U-shaped lock and a chain made of hardened steel.

2) Lock the frame and front wheel

Lock them to a solid anchor point that’s firmly attached to the ground. A bike rack is ideal. If you can easily remove your front wheel, lock it to the rest of your bike. Lift off the seat and take it with you.

3) Keep your bike inside

Park your bike inside as often as you can or choose a well-lit parking lot containing other bikes. It’s not a fail-proof method but it can be an effective way to discourage less experienced thieves.

4) Personalize your bike

Thieves are less attracted to bikes whose brand names have been covered by stickers, tape or even paint because they are much more difficult to resell.  Making your bicycle unique to you with stickers, markings, or label, etc.

5) Register your bike

register your bike online: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/pol/bike-registration.html.

6) Take a photo of your bike

Photograph your bike or, ask someone else to take a photo of you on it to show proof of ownership.

Subhash Sharma  "This beautiful oriental or Asiatic lily come from the group of plants that have been cultivated for a longer period of time than most plants from around the world and are native to the lily species of Korea and Japan. They have been found in gardens for more than 3,000 years, growing up to 6 feet tall. Although horticulturalists have been breeding various hybrids of this flower, its original physical form consists of three blooms on each stem with an average flower length of about 20 inches. Due to their relatively large size, rich colour and pleasing smell, Oriental lilies have been a long-time favourite of many plant and flower enthusiasts. The Oriental lily represents the "universal symbol of beauty," while expressing an air of wealth and decadence. Other meanings associated with this flower include purity and innocence."

Roy, I think bicycle registrations are very smart and a great idea for cities to incorporate. I still have the registration license on my bike from Honolulu from 1974.
