Are you moving to the Milford Michigan area because of a job at GM Proving Ground or some other nearby business. Maybe you are just moving to the area to be close to family? Whatever the reason it always pays to learn more about the area. Here is a quick drone video of the Village of Milford downtown area and the Upper Mill Pond.
Milford is an older historic downtown area but it is full of life. It has wonderful mom & pop restaurants and boutique stores. You won't find many chain stores in downtown Milford, but they are nearby. So you can find everything you need within a short drive of the Village of Milford MI. The village has a great night life and some great festivals. In fact tomorrow night I am going to Milford to watch a local band play music in the park. It is always nice to relax and hear the music in an outdoor setting.
This short drone video gives you a quick look at downtown Milford, and the upper Mill Pond. Because of the Huron River flowing through the village they made three different ponds to creat waterfalls and harness the energy of the river. There is Lower, Upper, and Hubble Pond. In the late 1800's and early 1900's the energy from the river helped create jobs and small factories in the village. People around here say Milford like one entity, though actually there is a Village of Milford that is about 2 square miles and 6300 people and there is Milford Township that surrounds the Village of Milford. Milford Township has about 16,500 people and about 35 square miles in size.
It's a great place to live and very close to the GM proving grounds. You can access I-96 or M-59 very easily to you can get to anywhere in Metro Detroit from Milford. Shopping at Milford Rd and I-96 has many big box chain stores, and there are even more just a few miles down the road at 12 Oaks Shopping Mall.
Here is some quick history of Milford. The town basically was started in 1832 when a sawmill was built by Stanley & Elizur Ruggles. The Huron River was the life blood of the community and a gristmill soon followed. Milford was one of the first communities in the area to have lights (1892) because of the hydropower. In 1893 the telephone came to the community. Henry Ford and other business used the power of the river to provide energy to the factories they built on the banks of the river.
