This is my real estate page. I talk about real estate here. And real estate is so much more than helping people buy or sell properties. Did you know that the Real Estate Commission is set up to protect the public? Did you know that the association of Realtors and the MLS are 2 different boards?
I am on the local MLS board. I go to a meeting at least once a month, sometimes there are multiple meetings a month. Today's meeting was just over 3 hours. I volunteer to do this - I don't get paid for getting up early and sitting in what may be a long boring meeting. There are no donuts there, no coffee. A dozen or so agents, appraisers and association staff gather to make sure we are self-regulating and doing the right thing for our community.
If you are working with or hiring a real estate agent to assist you with the purchase or sale of a property please make sure you're working with a Realtor. Hiring this person is a big deal. It's not a popularity contest, don't hire somebody because you have a distant relationship with them. (your neighbor's cousins manicurist who just got licensed) Hire a Realtor who understands your needs and your goals. This isn't about putting a sign in front of your home. This is about the biggest and most expensive decision of your life.
