Keller Williams Mega Camp Survival Guide 2018

Education & Training with Ember Seminars and Keller Williams Southeast Region

For years I have been sharing my Keller Williams Family Reunion Survival Guide for you and now it is time for the Keller Williams Mega Camp Survival Guide!

Time is short at Mega Camp with anywhere from only 28 hours to 80 hours of learning, masterminding, networking and maybe some sleeping worked in there. You will want to have a strong plan of attack to make the most of this event.

If you don’t know me and wonder why I am writing this to assist you it is because this is an event that I have attended many many many times and understand how it can be overwhelming.

Who am I? My name is Chad Hyams, and I have attended Keller Williams Mega Camp in many different roles:

  •        Agent
  •        Team Leader
  •        Vendor
  •        General Manager
  •        MAPS Coach
  •        Growth and Productivity Director for the Southeast Region
  •        Speaker and Trainer
  •        Mastermind Leader
  •        Regional Director of Expansion for the United Home Group

The point of that is to say this…it doesn’t matter what role you are attending Mega Camp in, just make sure you attend with purpose!

Mega Camp Survival Guide!

If you are reading this and have chosen to not be attending this year make sure you are listening to #KWMC on Twitter and Facebook and Instagram to share in the AHA's. If you are attending remember to use the hashtag when posting about the event!

Before you get anywhere near Austin (unless you live there already) take a moment and visit and check out all of the information that is shared in advance.

The difference between Mega Camp and Family Reunion is like night and day. While they are both amazing places to learn and network they operate very differently. At Mega Camp you will spend much of the day in one large room (like the Vision Speech or State of the Company at Family Reunion) and different conversations will happen through the day. More on this below in the information on the agenda.

***BONUS Tip – This tip works at ANY event you attend. To make the most of Keller Williams Mega Camp figure out your ONE question in advance. What is it you really want to learn if you could learn only one thing?

Now ask at least 100 different people at the event your question. You never know who you will end up asking. You will talk to MAPS Coaches, agents with different levels of experience or different views from parts of the country. You will ask Team Leaders, instructors and who knows you could find yourself asking the president of the company, so be prepared.

Remember to ask your question of AT LEAST 100 people! Want to know what will happen? You will get 100 different answers. When you take the time later to look at the answers you will figure out that really you only got 3 or 4 different answers. This will help you narrow your focus and actually apply something instead of becoming overwhelmed with amazing ideas.

Now that we have some groundwork let’s look at the details of this event and how you can make the most of your time.

Make The Most Of Your Time at Mega Camp
(because there isn’t a lot of it!)

You will get overwhelmed! Changes will happen. These are givens with an event this size. People will be walking, running and maybe even riding a scooter in all directions so keep your head up, not in your phone!

The first lesson to remember is to NOT sleep in. Yes you might be in a hotel. Yes it might feel like a vacation because there are no kids to get ready. This does not mean it is a vacation! This is a business trip! Get up and get going!
Everyone eats breakfast so get out there and find people to mastermind with. Even better, reach out to someone and set up a breakfast meeting.
Want to work out? Get to the hotel gym because you don’t know who might be running on that treadmill beside you. I have had some great masterminding/running sessions in years past.

***REMEMBER do NOT make this breakfast/working meeting with people that you can have a meal with any other day of the year. This is an amazing opportunity to meet and connect with new people. Who do you want to meet, talk with, question?

The one-on-one opportunity over a meal (or at the bar - more on that later) at KWMC will be the best use of your time.

*** Plan for these meetings in advance! Who is it that you would love to get some time with a Mega Camp? Reach out to them NOW and tell them that you would like to meet and schedule a meeting over breakfast, lunch, dinner or drinks. Hurry because their calendars are filling already.

Remember that you don’t have all of the answers as you attend Mega Camp so that you have an open mind ready to absorb all of the ideas, strategies and tactics that are working for others.

The Exhibit Hall

Get into the Vendor Hall as soon as possible and walk the floor! Grab information on any of the vendors that you are interested in to review later. Do NOT purchase on impulse as the magic bullet is offered from each vendor.

Leave your credit card in your hotel room on your first walk through the vendor hall and make this a scouting trip.

Even before you get to Austin figure out what your budget is for new services, software, marketing, and other items you might consider. This way you know the most you are going to spend and remember the lesson from MREA, Lead With Revenue!

When you get back to your hotel room or have a quiet moment with no pressure then you should take a moment and review all of the materials that you grabbed. Stick to your budget and you will know which vendors you need to spend more time with.

There is not much time during Mega Camp to hang out in the Vendor Hall so use the time wisely. Do not attempt to get one on one conversation with a vendor on one of the few breaks because you will be competing with 10,000+ others. When a topic is being covered on the big stage that is not something you are going to focus upon, then step out and visit that vendor!

Please remember that the magic bullet is a lie. There are no magic bullets. The message top agents are sharing from the stage is that you must work for your success, not buy it.

The Agenda

Let’s take a look at the agenda for this event in as much detail as we can.

2:00pm-6:00pm Welcome Party in the Vendor Hall.

Come open the event with some fun and prizes!

8:00am-12:00pm Mega Agent Camp Morning session

This is what is it all about! Join Gary Keller and other leaders as top producers are interviewed about specific topics.

Here’s the catch…you don’t know who is speaking. You don’t know what topic is being covered and you won’t know when any of that is happening. Get comfortable in the room and listen for the 1 AHA from each interview that you can implement as soon as you get home!

11 12:00pm – 1:00pm Lunch n’ Learns

Get your learning on in small sessions while having lunch OR make lunch plans before the event with someone you want to get some time and go grab something to eat.

1:30pm-5:30pm Mega Agent Camp Afternoon session

Here we go again!

8:00am-12:00pm Mega Agent Camp Morning session including Mega Tech!

Come hear from Gary Keller and MORE Mega Agents and plan to learn about the future of Keller Williams Technology and how it can work for you!

1:30pm-2:15pm Keynote Speaker

John Maxwell, Leadership Expert will be holding a special 45 minute keynote address that will change your life. Please note – special ticket must be purchased

2:30pm-5:30pm Agent Masterminds/Technology Masterminds

This is what Mega Camp is all about! The opportunity to get in a small room with people in your role (agent, admin, buyer specialist, etc) and at your production level so you can dive deeper into the topics that are challenges for you! Don’t miss registering for the Masterminds!

8:00am-9:30am Cultural Summit

What an amazing opportunity to listen to stories from around our company and country and really live the culture that is Keller Williams!

10:00am-11:30am Legacy presented by Mo Anderson

If you want to understand culture and leadership than look no farther than Mo Anderson and join her for this amazing 90 minutes.

1:00pm-5:00pm Mega Leadership Camp

OK the title of this session might be a little misleading. This will focus on the Leadership roles of the Keller Williams model. Will there be great value? ALWAYS! Will it be for you? That depends on the role you are in.

If you are in production, this might not be for you. If you are a Team Leader, Operating Principle, General Manager or a role involved in the growth and profit of a Market Center, then this is for you!

8:00am-12:00pm Mega Leadership Camp continues

1:30pm-5:30pm Leadership Masterminds (see Agent Masterminds above and change the roles!)

A Few More Tips

Social Media

Warn your friends and family on your social media platforms that you might be a little crazy with your Keller Williams postings!

Use the hashtag #KWMC18. Share with each other, find each other and share with those that were unable to join the event in person.

Business Cards

Please stop throwing your cards at people and thinking they want them. You should COLLECT cards of the people that YOU want to be able to follow up with and that way YOU control the future conversation.

Challenge yourself to meet and exchange cards with someone from every state so you can create a referral network of your own

Be prepared!

Make the most of this event by setting goals for Keller Williams Mega Camp

  •        What do you want to learn about?
  •        Who are you hoping to meet and get a moment to talk with?
  •        What do you need to find out about in the exhibit hall and what should you avoid spending money on?

Be ready!

  •        Bring power for your phone (get a portable charger)
  •        Bring snacks because you will get hungry
  •        Bring a few pens for the notes you will be writing

I was excited to attend this up until I got sick in late July, got out of the hospital a few days before the start and had to make the decision to stay home.  Good thing I cancelled since I am still just putting in partial days.

Looking forward to next year.
