Washington Home Inspector Licensing Course Oct. 2018

By
Home Inspector with King of the House Home Inspection, Inc. Home Inspector Lic #207

Bellingham Technical College's next four week home inspector training course begins on October 1, 2018. BTC offers not only a "fundamentals" of home inspection class, also, we make available 40 hours of field training. These training courses fulfill all state licensing requirements, so they tend to fill-up quickly. Anyone interested in our course is encouraged to enroll at this time. To keep classes manageable, and to facilitate personal instruction, BTC accepts only 12 inspection students per course. Students benefit from the personal attention, below are recent comments from past students.

"Thanks for all the helpful feedback on my field inspection report! And thanks for putting together a great course, I really enjoyed it."  L.H.

"This class has been great.  I've enjoyed it, I've already learned so much and I now realize that I still have more to learn. It was really a great time and I am looking forward to getting into the business."
B.O.

"Thank you, I appreciate the work you guys put into the class." D.C.

At BTC, which is the only state college designed and approved home inspection training course, we rely on capable and dedicated instructors. Our newest instructor, who has been teaching for almost a year now, is Dylan Chalk. He is well-known in the Seattle and Bremerton areas and is author of the book "The Confident House Hunter." Dylan (photo below) currently teaches HVAC and he supervises student field training.

State law requires inspection students to obtain at least 120 hours of "fundamentals" training. BTC offers substantially more credits (135 clock hours) -- a full 15 clock hours above the baseline. In addition to acquiring the licensing certification required by the state, our students earn both field training accreditation and state college credits.

We focus on standard areas of inspection such as site & exterior, structure, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building science, chimneys and wood heating, and interior issues. The current course is compliant with new state requirements that mandate instruction in the basics of swimming pools/spas, yard irrigation systems, and alternative methods of construction. The BTC class, also, presents an overview of wood destroying organism education and WSDA licensing options. This video provides an accurate overview of the upcoming October class.

This fast-track training program takes a student from start to finish in four weeks (20 days). Classes meet M-F from 8AM to 5PM. After the course is over, faculty provides support that helps students prep for state exams. These are some of the reasons BTC has a high pass rate among our students who take the state licensing exams.
