A Solution for Those Pesky Hard Water Stains at Home

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

There are days I turn into a neat freak. I snap. You know how it goes, right? I mean, you notice for months that something in your home is going astray. But you hope it will somehow correct itself overnight without you lifting a finger to do anything at all. Like those coat hangers in the closet that multiply when you're not looking.

Then it turns into a threshold level. How much can you stand of the morphetic thing that is occuring in your house? Whether it's the accumulation of white cat hair in the corners of the kitchen that turn into Texas-sized tumbleweed or the shower stains turning your glass into an opaque structure. There comes a time when you've got to tackle that situation.

Some people just remove the offending etched glass and replace it. But there is a better way. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: How to Get Rid of Hard Water Stains in the Shower.

Hi Elizabeth... thanks for this tip. I will remember to pass it on to my clients who often have to clean off their showers before we list. As I clean our glass daily, I never give it a chance to accumulate and I've trained my husband to do the same after he showers.

Elizabeth, we do not have hard water in this specific area, but have seen the bases almost black from not cleaning - gross!

It always makes me smile, Anthony, to see you standing next to the cardboard cut-out of Martha Stewart.

Nina Hollander We, in the Weintraub household, are obviously too lazy to wipe off our glass block. Well, actually, I don't use that bath.

Joan Cox We have hard water throughout Sacramento unless you have a water softener installed. We used to have a water softener but I took it out. Tired of it beeping at 3 AM when we ran out of pellets.

As for the shower floor, if people just clean it now and then it won't turn black. What pigs.

When we built our house we ordered special shower door glass that sheds water so there is no build up. We also squeegie it after showers so there are never any water spots when the housekeeper comes.

I have bookmarked your link to the product, Elizabeth.  A good hard water removal product is worth its weight in gold.  There use to be another product that acted more like a paste.  It was called, "Nonsuch."  But, I haven't been able to find it in years.
