There are two more Film on the Rocks events this summer at Red Rocks. This is a great event for families and friends, to see either a classic movie or a popularly acclaimed movie from the current year, together with a crowd that appreciates the movie. If you have never been to Red Rocks and there was not a concert that interested you this year, this is a good way to go and take in the beauty of the venue. The price is usually about $15 or more depending on when you buy them. Red Rocks holds nearly 10,000 people, but these events sell out with regularity. These are all ages events and the only thing you should consider is the subject matter of the movie you are seeing. Sometimes the movies are not family friendly. Tomorrow’s Film on the Rocks will be showing The Goonies, a classic that I am sure everyone has seen before. Widely hailed as one of the best adventure stories of all time, this should provide a special evening of childhood wonderment and peak 80’s Spielberg nostalgia. If you have seen Spielberg’s latest, Ready Player One, you may see how what made the Goonies so special translates to his present day works. Be sure to bring something to sit on, whether it be a fold out chair, camping chair or blanket. You will be sitting in Red Rocks, which does not have back support and are 65 rows of stone steps! You will be comfortable for the full two hours if you do so. If you are in the mood for local entertainment you can come early. There are local bands that play starting around 6:30. The movie starts right at dusk, which is usually about 8:45. The sound is actually very good and will sound nice and clear no matter where you are sitting. You can bring a few snacks to enjoy during the movie as well. One point of advice, since we have been attending events and concerts at Red Rocks for years now, all due in part to the freedoms that Denver property management allow. The best parking lot is the upper north lot, which will lead you directly to the ramp to get in to the venue. This is usually the shortest line in.
