Tony Grunsfeld Modernist Ranch in Northfield, IL
I recently listed this stunning Tony Grunsfeld ranch home in Winnetka on a beautiful acre of green expanse. The home went under contract quickly and the lucky buyers plan to renovate and update the home.

Built in 1971 and sold by the heirs of the original owners, the home has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Upon entering the foyer, you become immersed in the voluminous living room that opens to the opposite side of the house. With floor-to-ceiling windows or sliders throughout, nature is truly part of the design here.
The gorgeous floors are marble in the main rooms of the home and they were kept in perfect condition. The home also has a library, den, dining room, kitchen, mud room, and large basement with high ceilings.
The home is perfect for someone desiring a quiet location on a large piece of property. While the house needs updating, it has the most incredible "bones" I have ever seen.
Tony Grunsfeld was a distinguished modernist architect who built many homes on the North Shore. He was born in 1929 in Chicago and died in 2011. His son, John Mace Grunsfeld, is a former NASA astronaut who flew in five space shuttles. From the Chicago Tribune shortly after his death:
"Architect Thomas L. Shafer, who was Mr. Grunsfeld's longtime business partner, said his homes were defined by their clean, minimalist designs often dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows.
"His designs were very simple and very tailored," Shafer said. "There was no mess and no fuss."
After an interview with the Art Institute, they summarized his work:
"Working in a modern aesthetic, Grunsfeld is highly regarded for his sensitivity to site and landscape, architectural massing and building materials,"
