If you've been here any length of time you've probably noticed that ActiveRain is different than most other online places agents congregate.
I can pick any number of Facebook groups dedicated to real estate agents and most likely within 10 minutes of entering I'll regret that decision. Too often it's just another form of political jousting. Agree with me or you're an idiot (or worse).
Do you REALLY think a facepalm emoji response to my civil, thought out statement is the appropriate way to discuss the issue? Another mental entry into my "that agent will never get a referral from me" list...yeah, I know it's not much of a punishment, but what are the odds that someone from my market is moving to Silicon Valley anyway??
But you step inside the ActiveRain community and you'll quickly notice a difference. A HUGE difference. There's a culture here that has become self-sustaining, a Pay It Forward philosophy that the vast majority of active participants get and adhere to.
I can not recall EVER asking another Rainer a question or for help and not being given help. The reason I know as much as I do is because others have helped me, and I'm more than happy to share what I've learned.
There's a trust with each other established over the years.
Other members become the Help Desk for each other for all things NOT behind the ActiveRain green curtain and beyond our technical control.
Could you imagine going on Facebook and saying I have a problem and having someone say "I need your username and password" and actually GIVING it to them?
I wouldn't there, but I have here. No kidding. I've had a couple of short stints in the hospital over the last two years and I composed posts in advance and did the autoschedule. And just in case it didn't work, I had Plan B in place with one of my Rain friends set up with my username and password to make sure that post went up if the system didn't work. Complete trust that they wouldn't mess up 8 years worth of blogging or leave a comment under my name telling someone off :)
When we learn from each other, we all gain. I give you a technique that works for me, you share one that works in your area of the country. Maybe neither will work in the other place, but it's surely worth evaluating isn't it? Make the exchange often enough, lend a hand often enough and it all adds up. We start from a higher place of capability for our clients and our business. And that in time means more income too.
What's not to like about operating in a Pay It Forward community like the Rain?
Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help!
