Weather Update from My friend Margie Lovel from Friends of Kanaha.

hurricane hector

Here is the update on Hector from Maui Weather Today: "Hurricane Hector will move nearly due west tonight through Friday before Hector begins to gain some latitude over the weekend. Gusty trade winds are expected through Thursday, with the peak or strongest winds expected this afternoon through tonight. The trades are expected to begin easing back to moderate levels Thursday night and Friday, as Hector pulls further away from the state, with moderate trade winds continuing through the weekend and into early next week." Our high pressure producing trade winds has pushed Hector south...yea! Let's go sail!

Love Margie's love of windsurfing on Maui. She gives us daily updates on Facebook so I am always informed of current conditions on Maui.

Aloha Steven Nickens - I hope you stay safe and this event is minor in comparison to other storms.  I remember the devastation that Iniki had on the island of Kauai. I was there 11 years after it hit and much of the island still had not been rebuilt. I am a Mariott Kaanapali owner and always felt that side of the island was well protected. The waters are more shallow because of the proximity of Lanai and Molokai... but the north part of the islands are not well protected.

William the volcano always chases away the hurricane. The mountains are 13,000 to 14,000 feet high and the winds bounce off the crater. Good question.

We normally associate hurricanes with the east coast but it does happen in the Pacific. Stay safe.
