Gas Station to High-Rise Hotel in San Jose Lynbrook?
by Cupertino Schools REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
West San Jose neighbors were surprised last week as all San Jose council members voted to approve the 1090 S. De Anza Hotel Project, with the exception of District 1 Council member Chappie Jones and Raul Peralez.
For people who live, work and own property in the West San Jose Lynbrook High School area, this change may affect traffic, noise, and property values.
The proposed 1090 S. De Anza Hotel Project is at the former Chevron gas station and car wash at the corner of Via Vico, between Rainbow and Bollinger. It calls for a new four-story, 90-room Hampton Inn & Suites with one level of underground parkinh on the ~.61 gross acre site.
Cupertino DeAnza Hospitality LLC ,with principles Jerry Kim Kwok and Anny LingLing Wu purchased the property from the Rubnitz family in 2015, with the express intent of building a hotel on the site. Kwok is also listed as architect and developer of the project.
Neighborhood concerns include traffic, noise, pollution, the planned destruction of 7 mature redwood trees and the building of a four-storey zero-lot-line building in an area where the tallest existing structures are at most 2-storeys. Just under 50 comment letters were received, with the overwhelming majority against the project.
