This summer brought changes in Florida with the new Florida Sales Tax Credit Scholarship Program. With this program, all business tenants of commercial rental properties are allowed to apply for a really cool allocation. This lets the tenant get a credit against the state sales tax due on rent or license fee payments for donations made to an eligible nonprofit scholarship-funding organization.
We'll be able to see it in action soon, because the credits can be used against sales tax on rent or license fee payments beginning October 1, 2018. This program is cool because it helps to expand educational opportunities to children in the state by encouraging private business donations. Plus, it offsets annoying sales tax fees from rent and license fees too.
