Hurricane Lane and Moving the Toilet Flange

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold DRE #00697006

Guess I have got to run down to Lowes before Hurricane Lane hits to pick up extra propane and, while I'm there, supposedly my cabinet pulls have arrived. I tried to exchange propane tanks several days ago but Lowes was out of propane. Besides, I do not want to be physically inside the house, cringing, when the workers cut through my wall to finish installing the drain for the bath tub.

We moved the toilet flange yesterday. They were not sure it could be done, I think. So much digging. So much dirt and lava rock piled up in my bath. Then, today, I hear my quartz from Honolulu is not shipping, and there will be no quartz install on Friday. Oh, well. Ya go with the flow.

You can read more in my personal blog today and see more photographs at this link: Heaven and Hell of Moving a Toilet Flange.

Hi Elizabeth... you're certainly experiencing quite the "journey" in this renovation. More importantly, stay safe in the coming days.

Lise Howe Well, as it happened, I was on the phone with Spectrum trying to figure out which button hit my sofa in an odd way last night so I can't get TV today when they brought in my tub. So I didn't watch it, and everything went fine.

Nina Hollander Remodeling is like childbirth, I think. You forget how painful it is or you wouldn't do it again. You only remember your finished product.

Joan Cox No idea where to go or even if I would have to. We are still a mile up the volcano from the ocean.

Although I tried to pull my lanai loveseat into the bedoom, which set two geckos loose in the house. One jumped on my arm. I broke my flyswatter killing them and kicked the sofa out the door. It can live on its own outside, for better or worse.

Hi Elizabeth... that's as good an analogy as I've heard (so long as this remodel doesn't take 9 months!).

Really, get yourself a generator if there's still one to be had on the Big Island. It's no fun to be without electricity, which is a possibility! My daughter is wind and rain proofing her high rise windows in Honolulu. They are expecting a lot on Friday. Stay in touch!

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® I briefly considered it when I was in Lowes today but I don't know anything about generators, and taking a crash course on how to hook it up, how to run it, well, that is unappealing.

My backup plan is to take a bottle of scotch over to my neighbor's house and hang out.

Elizabeth- what a thing to be doing before a hurricane!!!  I would have screamed bloody murder if a gecko jumped on my arm. And finally, you're gonna want that generator when you run out of ice for your scotch!!!!

Yes I'm confident that if the quartz was in, the installers would be pulled to other jobs after Lane passes. And, yes, anytime you're remodeling, going with the flow is a requirement!

Stay safe and do keep us posted, Elizabeth!

Kathy Streib That's what water is for. It can take the place of ice, LOL. The weather reports are downgrading the CAT 5 to a CAT 4 now. In a few hours, it will start to rain but we're all hunkered down. What gets me is the Lowes crew said they are taking tomorrow off. What?

Debe Maxwell, CRS It's not that the installers have other jobs so much as it is getting the shipment to be released in Honolulu. Hopefully my wait is shorter as I should have been at the front of the line. As it is now, we have no idea when it will even ship.

Oh, no, I meant that even if it was here (the quartz), they will probably be quite busy in the coming weeks due to the storm!

I hope how soon you receive it and get it installed too, Elizabeth!

Debe Maxwell, CRS We'll only be out of commission for a day or two. We do not expect any delays with the installers. It's getting the product on the danged barge. Even Young Brothers is closed and not taking any shipments.

You underestimate how small the population is on Big Island, LOL. We have less than 200,000 people on the entire island. Around 15,000 people in Kona.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents Stay safe.  Worry about the toilet after the hurricane.  I'm with Kathy Streib .  This is routine for us.  Better to have that generator.  You're going to want that scotch!

Elizabeth - I hope you are taking this hurricane seriously.  I'm remembering that one of your last times there, they had the ballistic missile warning.  And, of course there is the volcano.

Myrl Jeffcoat Paradise has its price. Balistic missle warnings, erupting volcanoes and those danged geckos.

The prediction from the National Hurricane Center has Lane hitting us in Kona about 2 AM Friday. I am definitely as hunkered down as I can possibly get. I thought about this when I bought the house. It is oriented the long way toward the ocean and the covered lanai and fence somewhat protects it, too.
