Pineapples growing in Haiku Maui - yes you can grow them from the cut off tops. They will produce a new small pineapple after a few years.

I cut the top off of the pineapple and put it in water ASAP. It will sit on the kitchen counter in water for a few weeks, then I plant it in a very large pot. It can be outside or in on my patio. Either works. Use a little miracle grow and make sure to keep the bugs away with ORGANIC bug spray.

FYI...do a couple, not all of them will grow. 4 of 6 grew for me.

Hi Georgie, Great to see new pineapples.  I too am wondering how you are holding up in the wake of Lane.  Hope you were not put out to much.

Take care.

Georgie Hunter R(S) 58089 - Awe! Thanks for the confirmation that this is true! I've tried to grow the tops many times and never succeeded. Now I know it is true!

Hope you are staying clear of Hurricane weather and safe.

Love fresh pineapples! I have one in a pot in Mississippi that I raised from a baby. It would surely thrive in your wonderful climate.
