Even though I honestly hate that the rest of the country recognizes Idaho as the “potato state,” I also have been hearing about how much fun this race is for a long time, so I decided to do it. Plus, the course runs along the green belt, one of my favorite resources and activities in Boise, and it gave me a good excuse to run one more half marathon – the second I’ve run this year alone. So, all of those things combined for a great reason to add it to the list of Boyles Boise: 52 things to do and see.
The YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon, presented by the Idaho Potato Commission, is a fun full marathon, half marathon, 10K or 5K course along the Boise greenbelt. And luckily for me - all courses are flat and fast! And even though I have no plans to run another half marathon after this in my life, I also found out that this marathon can be used to qualify for the 2016 Boston Marathon. This is a very family-friendly event. It’s not just for serious runners and high-level athletes, so it’s great if you want to bring the entire family out for some exercise. We have a distance that will work for everyone. Plus, medals are given to Marathon and Half Marathon finishers.
