Outside of Boise but still close enough to drive there in two hours, McCall is one of the best places to live and play. I know because I lived there for a couple of years in the mid-late 1980s when my son Jonathan was born. Since then, I have been going back to visit on weekends and holidays as it is one of the most popular lake towns in Idaho.
It’s a beautiful lake/resort town that offers the best activities, scenes and charm of Boise, but smaller, quieter and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and that’s why it makes the list of Boyles Boise: 52 things to do and see. The natural resources of the town offer a diverse range of activities, including everything from: snow skiing, snow boarding, snowshoeing and sledding in the winter, to golfing, hiking, biking, camping, river rafting, kayaking, fishing, boating and jet skiing during the rest of the year. And even though McCall is not quite in the deep woods and completely off the grid, residents and visitors alike are still surrounded by wildlife, natural hot springs, the beautiful Payette Lake, zero crime, and rugged, beautiful mountains in every direction. It’s truly an amazing place and definitely worth a long-weekend visit.
