Every showing should be like your first date.

Ah, the first date. The time to clean up. Get your haircut, shave and put on your best fitting clothes. No one goes on a first date in their old sweatpants, hair a mess, looking like you just got done mowing the lawn. It is a chance to be your very best.

Now you want to sell your house and you want to get top dollar. Shouldn’t your house be it’s very best? There are going to be a lot of people coming through your house. Looking at your bedroom, checking out your appliances, walking around your yard.

How do you want them to feel about your house? Do you want them to think it’s OK, or do you want love at first site? Selling a home is not a long-term relationship. You don’t have time to grow old together.

If you want top dollar, then your house must be at it's very best.

I tell every client that their home needs to look like a model home. That means CLEAN, paint, fix, declutter. Set the stage. You are putting on a show.

Every person that walks into your house is on their first date with you. Make it a good one or there won’t be a second date.

Oh, and yes, when selling a home it’s OK to kiss on the first date.

Want to sell your house fast, for top dollar? I can help. I don’t list homes, I SELL HOMES.

Visit me at www.Scottsdale-AZHomes.com for tips and tricks on selling your home. Then call me first. You won’t need to make a second call.

I thought this was going to be about the agent looking their best, because that's important too. I actually have seen agents on showings wearing their sweatpants and an old t-shirt. They may have interrupted mowing the lawn to do the showings.

Meanwhile - great post and absolutely true.

There is a home for everyone out there and looking your best really helps to get much needed attention to get it sold. Great analogy Joe and congrats on the feature!

Hi Joseph

I think your analogy is right on target for showings.  It pays to also remember that the first open house is when the listing goes live on the MLS, etc. Gotta look your best then, too!

Such a worthy feature-congratulations! I’d love to repost this. Still, on the flip side, some people need to be reminded not to wait for perfection, because that’s not realistic and you might miss a known time when it’s a hot market.

Great analogy and perfectly stated.  It really all comes down to the fact that you only have one chance to make that first impression.
