Mom Tip of the Day--Halloween Edition

By
Education & Training with Mommy Enlightened

Although we are a long ways off from Halloween, I am definitely excited to celebrate this year. We have two little girls of our own, and our oldest is almost old enough to have a pretty good grasp on what the Halloween season is all about.

We had recently moved last Halloween, so we definitely experienced the difficulty that comes with navigating a new neighborhood--especially during the holidays!

Because we have been through it, we wanted to give some advice about celebrating /Halloween in a new neighborhood. Hopefully this can be helpful if you are planning on moving right before the festive season.

1. If you have a baby, consider dressing up in a mommy and me costume with your baby. You will find that there are not always a ton of options, but you can usually pick up something separate for the two of you once you have an idea of what you would like.

2. If you have a toddler, find some Halloween crafts to do with them. Your little one may be a bit stressed out if you recently moved, and so this is a great way to get them jazzed up and excited for the upcoming holiday.

3.If your kids are old enough to go trick-or-treating, let them decide where they want to trick-or-treat. If they are having a really hard time with the move, consider letting them trick-or-treat in their old neighborhood.

4. Make sure you teach your kids about how to stay safe at Halloween time. When your kids bring home their baskets of candy, double check that none of the candy has been tampered with. Although this is a very few and far between thing that happens--it can happen, and I would be a lot more wary in a neighborhood I was not familiar with.

5. Hold a Halloween party. Your child may or may not have friends yet in this new neighborhood, but consider holding a party and inviting the neighbors. This way, your whole family can meet the neighbors, and your child will have a chance to interact with other kids that may come to the party.

6. Most of all--make sure that you have fun. Moving at this time of year is definitely stressful enough, especially if you have kids. Try and make it as fun and memorable as any other year so your whole family can enjoy it.

Good luck this year with your kiddos and Happy Halloween!
