Most homebuyers want to buy their houses early in the year. Those who have kids want to wait until the school year ends before they change their address and school district. Others want to take advantage of choosing from a wide selection of homes that are simultaneously placed in the market. In the world of real estate, buyers have a shift in thinking right after Labor Day. To help you with your real estate decisions, here are some reasons you should sell or purchase a home during the fall season:
- You can improve your home’s look in time for the buyers. Since there is no hurry for you to sell your home during the fall, you can take a closer look at it and make some improvements. A fresh splash of paint on the outside walls of your house and some new landscaping usually attracts more buyers. A brand new façade for your home makes it look as if it is one of those seen on TV.
- Less competition. The real estate market slows down after Labor Day. During the start of the year, homes usually sell more quickly because of competing offers. This is far less likely to happen during the fall or winter season. This is the time when real estate buyers take their time in selecting the home they want. A better price is in the wind because there are fewer home buyers competing with you.
- Low interest rates. It is the right time to move into your first home or upgraded home after Labor Day. During this time of year, interest rates stay down. Home purchasers save a lot eventually. Sometime in November, the rates will rise again. So, if you want to buy a home, do it earlier in the fall.
- Great time to buy a vacation home. If you enjoyed your time vacationing somewhere in the country enough to buy a vacation home there, fall is the right time to do so. Take advantage of the low prices and a better pool of choices.
- It does not pressure you to meet a deadline. If you buy a home during the beginning of the year, you will be pressured into closing the deal because kids would need to acclimate to their new homes before school starts. Even if you don’t have children, you might be pressured to make the decision because the home seller has kids and they want to move into their new home ASAP. Buying a home in the fall gives you a lot of time to view, choose, and contemplate on which house you want to buy. You could probably even purchase a house at a price that you truly want.
Wait patiently until after Labor Day before you buy or sell a home. It is less stressful for you and you get to take your time in doing things involved in buying or selling houses.
