Grandparents Day Sept. 9, 2018 Honor Elders Today
by Silicon Valley REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Honor elders, especially grandparents today on Sept. 9, 2018. Grandparents Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day annually.
Surprisingly, Grandparents Day was not artificially created by the greeting card industry. Instead it was a mother of 15 children, 43 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild named Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade of West Virginia who spurred the creation of Grandparents Day.
The first presidential proclamation of Grandparents Day was by Jimmy Carter in 1979. There are three purposes for National Grandparents Day
. To honor grandparents.
. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children.
. To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
