KEEPING YOUR PETS SAFE DURING HURRICANE FLORENCE

With so many households in the path of Hurricane Florence with dogs and cats in the home, it's also important to have a plan and disaster kit to protect and care for them during a disaster.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have provided the following check lists for pet cat and pet dog disaster checklists.

DISASTER KIT CHECKLIST FOR YOUR CAT(S)

Disaster Checklist for Cats

DISASTER CHECKLIST FOR YOUR PET DOG(S)

Dog Safety Checklist during disaster

Please avoid the heartbreak of losing your beloved pet(s) because you weren't prepared.

This information and advice about weathering Hurricane Florence and disaster checklists for pets   is provided by Nina Hollander/Carolinas Realty Partners, your Charlotte residential real estate experts and pet loving neighbors. We urge all our friends, clients, colleagues, fellow Charlotteans and North Carolinians to plan, prepare, and most important, to stay safe in the coming days... and keep your pets safe too!

Nina, I was just watching where a rescue from here traveled to pick up dogs from a shelter that is seeing massive flooding. Thinking of our 4 legged friends during a storm like this is so important and you share great information in your post.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® thanks, Sheri... all very unsettling here right now... some wind and damp, but so far no rain... and no one has any idea how the storm will move inland.

Amanda S. Davidson hi Amanda... for most of us our four-legged companions are members of our family, like children... it really is important to have a plan for them, as well.

Lisa Von Domek thanks, Lisa... right now we can use all the good thoughts and prayers sent our way. Still dry in Charlotte, but we'll be hit at some point for sure.

Joan Cox hi Joan... on some level it's hard to be ready when you don't totally know what to be ready for. I don't expect flooding, but I'm prepared for power to go out at some point when the rains hit in the next few days.

George Souto hi George... animals are very sensitive to major weather changes and we, of course, can't explain things to them. What is happening with your son?

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... while the storm has been downgraded for wind, it hasn't for rain, and lots of parts of NC are in for floods... including western NC in the mountains, where mud slides are also a danger. All very unsettling.

Most of us can not fathom neglecting a pet during a natural disaster Nina Hollander but during our flood hundreds of pets were abandoned. I think when people came back to reclaim them from the pound they should have been fined and added to a pet abuse list much like a child offender list.

Jeff Dowler, CRS good morning, Jeff... rain is beginning to arrive in Charlotte along with winds. It could be 10 inches here before it's all over and a number of trees around town are already down taking down power lines. So far, okay at my end, but I'm prepared to lose power.

Roy Kelley thanks, Roy. So many lost and abandoned animals every time there's a natural disaster like this one. So far, I haven't heard much here, so maybe people were more vigilant to take care of their pets as part of the evacuation process.
