How to Set Up a Successful Blog Marketing Strategy

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.

In a previous post, "There's More to Content Marketing Campaigns Than Blogging"  I outlined 10 different kinds of content you can create for your content marketing strategy.  This week I want to concentrate on creating a successful blog marketing strategy.

The First Thing to Consider in Any Marketing Strategy - Set your goals. Setting the right goals for your blog marketing campaigns could mean the difference between success and failure.  Decide what you want to achieve. Then set realistic, attainable, and measurable goals.  Check each win off your list of goals.  This sense of accomplishment will encourage you to continue moving forward.

Know Your Audience - Create a list of who your ideal audience is, where you will find them online, and what topics will bring the most interest.  Knowing your audience is essential to your blog marketing success.

Decide Which Platforms Work Best - Obviously the first thing you need is a blog site.  There are free platforms such as and  Keep in mind that while free, these sites will eat up your search engine ranking. In order to get the search engines to sit up and take notice, you'll need to have a self-hosted site using your own domain.  Check into network sites that allow individual posting.

What Type of Content Do You Promote? - Once you've created your content, don't stop at posting it on your blog site.  Repurpose your posts into different formats.  Create a podcast, video, infographic or article.  Promote those on appropriate channels.

Promote! Promote! Promote! - Once upon a time when we were all trying desperately to understand the "world wide web", many of us thought that when our website was active, people would flock to it.  We didn't fully understand how that all worked. Strategies have changed throughout the years. However, one thing remains the same.  You have to promote your blog! Social media, contact lists, networks, and many other platforms are a must.  Make it easy for your audience to share your posts by adding share buttons.

One More Thing - If all of this sounds like it's going to take a lot of your precious time to do, you're right!  Research, writing, effectively optimizing, and promoting your posts can be daunting.  And, you should at least be doing this weekly.  It will take a lot of time away from your "real" job.  To make better use of your time, consider outsourcing.

Put these six blog marketing strategies to work for you. You'll find more website traffic, brand recognition, and trust. Your target market will soon recognize you as the "go to" professional for their needs.

Nice article Pamela Cendejas .  Blogging and promoting my blog is a major part of my marketing.  I write one article a week.

Through this I have strengthened my position in the Google 3 pack for multiple keywords.  When you can do that.... your phone rings.

But I think I would add consistency is important.  You cant bounce in and out of it.  Make the commitment and stick to it.  Blooging is a long game when it comes to marketing.  But it can have big returns.  Dollar investment is low, time investment is high.

I had to laugh out loud on Promote! Promote! Promote!  because some people still think that all you have to do is put up a website and the public will come flocking to it.

This is a really good post.  Enjoyed reading it.

I agree with almost everything you've presented, but not outsourcing.  I don't mind hiring help, but I want those writers inside my office and under my control.

Great tips here even for those of us who have been around for a while. There is always room to improve, especially with promoting, and being consistent.
