Would you consider relocating to a city on your credit good or bad?

Would you consider relocating to a city based on the fact, that you could buy with bad or great credit?

www.endrebarath.com

I just read an article on R.com and it made me pause. Their headline was bragging about ten places in the US where you can buy a home with bad credit. My first reaction was WHY would they publish something like this? Then my second reaction was, in Real Estate there are cause and effects to headlines like this. Third have they thought through what their headline’s ramifications will be on those local markets? Just to grab the attention they are willing to cause adverse reactions in those communities. What if people believed the article?

As I kept reading further, I noticed that, not only did they address each town and what they were basing their information on, but they had a counter point as well. Clearly their intent was to project that, how fair and balanced their article was, i.e.: they also listed ten places where you need to have real good credit to buy a home. Again, my reaction was the same WHY would you publish something like this?

I am confident, that you will agree with me, when I say that people with bad credit after reading this article will not suddenly pack their bags and relocate to these cities. There must be more to it then just reading about a place where you can buy a home with bad credit to pick up and move. There better be school or work opportunities before anyone considers relocating from point A to point B.

I know, because I am a Relocation Specialist who happens to live in Los Angeles, the destination place from all over the globe! Most of the people who intend on trying to make it in Hollywood are usually the majority of the people who relocate here. Most of the Hollywood Wannabees intend on making it in Hollywood do not look at cost of living, they do not look at how good their credit score must be to live here. They are motivated by the “opportunities of making it in Hollywood”! Sadly, many end up not making it and they find other jobs to make a living. Others look at different parts of the country and move again.

So, you might ask me, so why are you getting so upset about? The answer is easy, many of these twenty communities on one extreme to the other, will have to overcome questions and objections from potential buyers and sellers. On whom will the burden fall on? Yes, the local Realtors will have to overcome the questions and explain logically how wrong this article is. I feel bad for the local Realtors who will be faced with these questions. Especially since not all buyers and sellers will accept their explanation, or should I say clarifications, since the R.com platform has a good ring to it, sounds like it is supported with facts.

Hi Endre Barath, Jr. Great article that I totally agree with.  I have relocated twice in the past 26 years.  Neither time did our credit ranking have any bearing on where were going...but work and family did.

Both of those relocations I went into without work lined up...hence how I became a real estate agent....on the first my wife was transferred for her job...on the second one...family drew us home...with money in the bank and no jobs lined up building a new house in an expensive neighborhood...although it turned out alright....I share my story with clients about how easy it is to  burn through savings when you are getting started in a new career!!

Seems R.com had a shortage of good, informative articles to put out on the net Endre Barath, Jr. and decided to throw that one out to see if it would stick. Thankfully, most consumers looking for agents to help guide them locally but it does bring up unrealistic expectations. It is hard for anyone to rent a home with bad credit here much less buy one. Sheesh!

Ugh! I guess they figured people love to read lists and didn't put much thought into the consequences.

Hello Endre --- I too like the image you selected to accompany this post but the subject matter seems to be more appropriate for The Onion. Oh, well some humor just goes over my head.

The headline did a disservice to the article. I doubt if all who made a comment here took the time to read the article.

Based on research cited in the article, it is more likely that a buyer can find a loan program that accepts buyers with lower fico scores in some places than in others. To imply that R.com is trying to herd lower credit score buyers to places where they can obtain loans is a mis-interpretation of the article. As we all know, there is much more to be considered in making a move.

Good evening Endre Barath, Jr.,

Wow..this R.com article is nuts! I think it's doing a disservice to consumers, and is misleading consumers into thinking they can buy with lousy credit. I love the cup by the way! Glad to see your post featured..well deserved!

I didnt think you could buy a home with bad credit... they raised the limits awhile back.

Its like they have nothing relevant to say so they write fluff that doesnt matter!

Hi Endre Barath, Jr., they must not have any good content to publish something like this. How could they possibly talk to amasses without having any knowledge of their specific credit challenges?  Sadly, some will start searching these areas with the hopes of buying a home. Not a week goes by where I don't get a phone call from someone living in the NE looking to buy a home in the Orlando area for $150,000. Mind you, they're looking for a new, move-in home in a good location. This is in direct result of what they "hear" or "read" online.

Tough decision to pack up and move anywhere.  I would hope that repairing credit might be higher on the priority list.  But then again life situations are often so different.
