Question from Buyer -
Why do the pools in our communities close on Labor Day when the temperatures are still in the 90's?
This is a common question from many Buyers, and even after Labor Day, Denver can experience very hot temperatures. Just because it is September, doesn't mean it will start snowing, or that the weather will instantly change. Here in Denver, September could be (and often is) a mixed bag weather-wise. It could be in the 90's, could see light snow.
I reached out to an HOA to get the answer from their perspective, and reasoning. This may differ with each HOA, but this is a reasonable answer.
Thank you for your inquiry regarding our swimming pool closing. The Association documents specify that the pool is open Memorial Day weekend through the Labor Day weekend which is still a pretty typical season that many pools adhere to.
We record pool usage on a daily basis through electronic access. In the eleven weeks since opening this year, the pool averaged over 10 visits daily. In the last two weeks prior to and including the Labor Day weekend, the average dropped to less than one visit daily. Interest or availability (schools back in session, etc.) showed a very sharp decline in usage this year.
We have extended the pool season in past years when there was continued interest and usage. There were no inquiries or requests expressed to the Board or Management seeking an extension due to the cooperative weather, Labor Day parties, Back-to-School parties, or such. Given the cost to keep the pool open past Labor Day weekend – this year – for attendance of one visitor per day was simply not wise.
We will however consider extending the pool season again next year.
