Photo logos?

Another interesting find from an old safe that was purchased by Central Arkansas Lock and Safe, owned by Jody Travis in Searcy, were envelopes or checks or statements with the pictures of the business in the corner.  At that time an envelope just had to say a name and Searcy, Arkansas (and if mailed in the city you could probably leave off Arkansas) and it got delivered to the right person.

I have been aware of the bottom two businesses but not the top one.  Southerland Lumber Company is a new one for me.  I am sure the Searcy Sleuths will give us information about it. The dates on these were in the early 1930's.

The Historical Society has accepted the collection for their archives so perhaps they will live on and on and on.

Click here for the last blog regarding this unusual find.  And there you will also find links to earlier blogs regarding the Pershing Service Station that was located on Main Street in Searcy.

Will, was I right to call them Logos?  They were very detailed.

The Southerland Lumber Co was located on the D K & S tracks East of Main St.

Note Tel. 10.

Those pictures are called engravings. They were actully produced on paper by running the paper over inked engraving of the scenes in lead blocks like type sets. I think you probably knew this but forgot.

Don, I got a degree in Art but never took a print-making class.  So my knowledge of printing is very limited.

Block prints are similar. I made a Christmas card one time

by carving the image in a block, inking it, then pressing card paper on the block. I also did silk screening in art class in college.

Yes, Don, you are high above me in print making.  It was not required in the art classes.  I was also not required to take music appreciation since I majored in art so I know nothing about music, not even a note.
