Is Human Interaction a Disposable Product Today?

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

If a tree falls in the woods, did it make a sound? You know, if you email a customer, meaning a person who has specifically requested more information from you, and that person does not reply, are they ignoring you? It makes me wonder whether we have become so insensitive to digital communications that people feel it is OK to cross the street to the other side if they don't feel like interacting.

Or, maybe we think everybody outside of ourselves is now a robot. Because so much of our communications in a business world are not with "real" people. Don't you think we should treat humans better than we would a robot? You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Are You Guilty of Ignoring People?

I know what you mean Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents. Also, I can get so many recorded robo calls from out of state that sometimes when a real out of state area code human buyer calls, I can be surprised.

Good question Elizabeth. I think we are less able to communicate one on one because tools focused us elsewhere. not me though.

I think all the automated tools we have today do make it harder to communicate person-to-person. That's one reason I focus on my sphere, past clients, friends.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - That's pretty rude when someone doesn't return your call whom you have given business in the past. That's just bad business. Especially a travel agent. It's not like they are overwhelmed these days with business; they are lucky to BE in business. And your lawn sprinkler guy just not showing up then not answering your call? Again, bad for business. Now LEADS, that is a whole lot of other weirdness. Who would just punch that old button saying "I am interested in such and such a property" and not respond when we get back to them to help them? But we need to at least give them a response because some turn into actual buyers. Showed a couple some great Carmel Cottages today; and that after being in touch for a couple of months. Referrals? Some work out, many don't.  Like you, I just keep after them until, well, until...

Elizabeth, there are so many times web site visitors ask for information, I send it over, and never hear from them again.   Sometimes I wonder if I should answer them at all.

A commitment to being responsive, be it to text, email or a phone call, is clearly not there for some individuals while others seem to go out of their way to always be responsive. Yes, life interferes with all of us at one time or another and prevents us from being as responsive as we might normally be, or maybe it's problems with the technology. But that does not explain the lack of responsiveness we experience in some cases.

Lottie Kendall I deal with many people I never meet in person. It is not unusual for me to sell houses in Sac for sellers I've never met.

Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® Yes, rude and weird. A guy on my website says it's called ghosting, and job candidates do it, he says. They apply for a job, get an interview, and then they don't show up for the interview!

I know about ghosting among dating teenagers and whatev, but had not realized it has reached such epic proportions that people think it is OK to do.

Joan Cox So much of my business comes from the internet that if I adopted an attitude of I just won't bother with those leads, then I would lose a big chunk of business. So not responding to them is just as bad as their ghosting us. I don't want to be that kind of person.

Jeff Dowler, CRS I am baffled by this type of behavior. It's as though they've decided human beings are dispensable.

I don't think they are so much ignoring as using people to get what they want. They want the information when they want it and when they want interaction, they will reach out to someone along the way.

Debbie Reynolds So nobody cares about service anymore, you think? They feel we are all the same and since there is no difference among humans or agents or whateve,

see, reduced to a robot. They treat us like a robot. Like there is an inner circle and then the robots of the world. This is sad.
