Some of you might have noticed that I haven’t been around much in the Rain this year.
Sometimes life fills your plate up so much – you have to pass on dessert.
One of the challenges of being self-employed is the ridiculous cost of health insurance. Insurance for my husband and I was going to be $2,200 per month beginning 2018 with a $10,000 deductible.
Since I had absolutely no plans to pay these highway robbers that much money, I decided to take on a job with benefits. It has been an adjustment. An alarm clock? What the heck is that? Driving across town in rush hour? How does that work?
Yes I still work as a Realtor and am still Managing Broker/Owner of Aspen Lane Real Estate, but I am lucky enough to work with a great guy who is willing to cover everything for us, Dan Spencer.
Last year was a slow year for me in real estate. I thought taking on this new job wouldn’t be a problem and maybe I would have a few real estate deals from friends and family who would tolerate my schedule. I have been at my new job for 9 months now, and these 9 months have been the busiest real estate months I have had in years. Figures!
By day, I am working with a mortgage company for a local bank and I love it. They treat me like family and tolerate my occasionally whining about the amount of time it takes me to travel 13 miles in rush hour traffic. Health, dental and vision insurance for Craig and I is only $650 per month.
It has taken a while to clear the cobwebs in my brain and get back into the mortgage world. It has been a bit since I worked in lending. I am not originating, but rather managing the office and processing loans. Every day is a new learning experience as I am faced with the never-ending changes in the mortgage world and the constant Fannie/Freddie guideline updates. I now have a new level of respect for the mortgage folks I have worked with in the past.
I will continue to check in when time permits and make sure you are all doing fine. In the meantime, Blog On!
Here is a picture of the courtyard my office overlooks and the new friends I have made.
