Think Thin Thursday ~ The COFFEE Dilemma

Some of you may remember me writing about some sleep challenges I've had during the past month. The melatonin addition did not take in the weeks previous and I'm ready for the micro-dose alternative. In the meantime, even though I am not in the habit of early morning workouts there are benefits to implementing them into the plan.

If I were to map out the morning it would begin with my favorite cup of coffee, 100% Kona. The juices, sometimes called hormones have already begun their busy day and the java just gives an extra push to get to the starting line. You don't have to have anything to drink but if coffee is to your liking then by all means begin there.

After coffee it's time to workout. You don't need an all out two hour session during these early changes in your routine but 10 to 20 minutes of effort may change your mind about morning workouts. Here are a few reasons why you can benefit from getting yourself in gear earlier in the day rather than later.

1. AM Testosterone levels are higher and provide greater work capacity

2. An increased pulse rate early in the day will energize you throughout

3. After your adjustment period you'll exceed prior capability with ease

4. The coffee will give you a boost although limit yourself to one cup

5. Morning workouts will raise your self esteem and confidence levels

6. Stress will no longer take over your day (thanks norepenephrine)

7. Your brain will thank you for increased memory and attentiveness

8. Breakfast is good for you and AM workouts bring the appetitite

9. You'll breeze right through previous minor annoyances easily

10. Morning workouts become habits due to better time management

YOUR TIME HAS COME

I guess you & me both. The one good thing about not sleeping is you can get a lot more accomplished in a day.

Hi Kevin=I prefer working out and getting my major walking out of the way in the morning. So the melatonin didn't work???

I'm going to try and ease my way into it with a walk and swim routine. The melatonin works but not in the manner I want. Made me tired but does not give me a full night's rest so I'll be attempting the microdosing and see what happens.

Hi Kevin, I may have mentioned it but a friend of mine took something called Calm- that he mixed in water and drank before bedtime. It helps you sleep. Got it at The Vitamin Shoppe.

  We get our Kona from:

Pele Plantations (go for the Peaberry).  This is served in The White House!

      Heavenly Hawaiian

*Jamaica Blue Mountain, Mavis Bank is the best... but there are many, many fakes pretending to be JBM.  Be careful!

The blends are hidden everywhere Fred. We almost bought our own small plantation about 20 years ago. The search would have ended had that happened. I'm limited to one mug in the morning so I want something special. Thanks for the links!

I've always been an early morning person (and I mean early)... at the gym by 4:30am. But I go nowhere until I've had my coffee. And once back, more coffee and a protein-heavy breakfast. I'm at my best through the morning hours.

You are an early riser Nina. Usually the birds have to be singing really loud to make me move at that hour. I thought 5 was good!

Thanks for the advice, Kevin.  I need to work on these.  Other than the coffee part, I've got that nailed.

Sage advice, Kevin! I do have one question - I'm more of a pot of Kona each morning, instead of a cup! You said limit yourself to one cup. Is there a reason for that - other than you CAN have too much of a good thing?!!
