ABC Realty Set to Reinvent the Warehouse and Distribution Industry

ABC Realty is a generic name meant to stand for any of the several major real estate companies.

Or more to the point of my post, ABC Realty should be understood to mean the collective current state of the real estate industry.

Some of these real estate companies are major players and innovators in the real estate industry, both nationally in the United States and world wide.

Quite naturally, when word got out that one of these major real estate companies was getting into the warehousing and distribution industry, it had people excited about the possibilities.

Let's look at a couple of areas where ABC Realty has progressed.

Contracts and their Distribution:

At one time they were hand written and included a handshake.  Eventually as technology improved, they were typed and eventually they were distributed via fax machines, and then electronically via computer and Internet systems.  Today, no paper is needed.  Contracts can be created, shared, signed, and saved on an electronic platform whereby all parties can access them.

The Multiple List

Listings used to be delivered by hand on a periodic basis to the participating real estate offices.  Now listings are available in real time, with numerous photos, virtual tours, virtual staging, aerial shots, links to tax records, school systems, crime statistics, and on and on and it is accesible to almost everyone.

So what is the point?

No, it is not that ABC Realty is getting into the warehouse and distribution industry, but instead it is that a company from the warehouse and distribution industry is getting into the real estate industry.

Yes, that's right.  The talk and excitement is that Amazon is getting into the real estate industry.

While Amazon may have been innovators in their current industry, I am not expecting them to overnight reinvent the real estate industry.

Real estate is a fast moving business, which has forced its current participants to be innovators or to be left by the wayside.

What will Amazon do?  Start to deliver homes with drones?

I have no problem with Amazon entering the real estate industry, but I am not impressed.
