The BEST con-ed class I've ever attended and it was 304 miles round trip!

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty - Lakeside Market Center

A few weeks ago our Lola Audu and Gwyn Besner announced that theyLola Audu Audu Homes in Grand Rapids Michigan
were hosting joint continuing education classes here in Michigan.

Lola, after much hard work and persistance, had received approval from the state of
Michigan for her Blogging and Web 2.0 for real estate professionals continual education

Gwyn would be teaching the Code of Ethics class that would give professionals both of
the required 2 hour legal updates credit and the NAR required 2nd cycle of Quadrennial
training class.

When I read about their combined classes I knew I had to make the effort to be there
for many personal reasons:

Typically, the required con-ed classes are not enriching, and I want the time I spendGwyn Besner of the Acme Institute in Michigan
in a class to be educational and memorable.

No one on our side of the state is talking about blogging, let alone being
persistant and caring enough to push the state to see the importance of education
in this growing field of communicating with the public.

I wanted to meet a lady that I have admired and considered a mentor (though she
didn't know it) from the moment that I first read her words.

Yesterday morning I was full of excitement:  I would finally meet Lola in person AND
I was going to attend continuing education classes that I knew instinctively would be
classes that I would remember.   I left my home at 4:30 in the morning and made
the drive to Grand Rapids MI arriving in plenty of time for registration.   Lola greeted
me with a hug, a cheerful smile and a warm welcome.  I truly felt as if I was seeing an
old friend.

The first of the 2 classes that Lola instructed kept me entranced.  Not only is Lola a
fabulous public speaker, but the material that she put together for the Blogging and
Web 2.0 for Real Estate Professionals were right on the mark and what I had expected.

The second of Lolas classes was more in depth and also very well written and full of
information for not only the beginning blogger but also for those who have been blogging
for a bit.

Gwyns class was equally interesting and full of energy.  This was the first time I had
attending one of her classes as well, and I was not disappointed.  She has a way of
keeping you on your toes and engaged in the teaching and gets all of her points
across very thoroughly.

For those of you in Michigan who have not fulfilled your continuing education requirements
as of yet I highly recommend taking the extra time to attend one of Lolas and Gwyns
classes.  Too often the classes that we attend are an old repeat of previous classes
with just a bit of newness thrown in to meet state requirements and don't hold our interest.
This was not the case with Lola and Gwyn and their classes.

Not only are they teachers but they cover very relevant material.

I thought about the classes the entire trip home.
That hadn't happened after any of my
previous classes.  How many of you can say the same after attending what is mandatory
training in our profession?

Below is the contact information for Lola and Gwyn.  Please call them if you are interested
in attending one or more of their classes this year.  You won't be disappointed.

Kris, I wanted to go so bad and plan to catch one. My husband had Gwen in his pre-license class. I know it was excellent. Wish I had known you were going...but nah I couldn't have gone. I'm leaving today and in the process of negotiating 4 offers.

Kris - that had to have been a blast!  Lola is one of my favorites here because she always writes such relevant material. Like you, I'm usually disappointed in continuing ed, but this one would be the one to go to!

Missy:   I really enjoyed my time at the classes.  Both of these ladies are breaths of fresh air with the education.  Wonderful!   Don't we always get busy just as we are planning some away time?   Enjoy your time with your son Missy.

Linda:  It was so much fun and educational!  More than worth the trip and time spent on the road.  I would do it again without question.

Michael:  I read it and was shocked.  Unfortunately classes can't teach someone good behaviour.  They either have it or they don't.

Karen:   Good for you!   No one would be disappointed, of that I am sure.

I am glad that you got so much from a class. It is frustrating to attend classes and you leave with nothing more than you came with.

Hi Kris,
It would be worth a 300+ mile trip to attend a class that held my interest and attention!  Lola is a dynamite blogger that I really enjoy.

Kris, it was a pleasure to have you in class.  My students know I never use props and this was the first time I presented with a power point presentation.  This is a NAR mandated quadriennial Code of Ethics course and it has to be presented using the tools they give us.  The audience was most patient with me as I was tied to a leash and having a hard time remembering to click the pages.  That will come with time.

Michael, I believe you are correct.  I also believe you cannot teach good behaviour. (Yes, that is how my Welsh grandmother, who taught me mine, spelled it also.)  Nonetheless, the National Association of Realtors  believes that if we have a set of rules we ought live by, there should be penalties for straying from them.  I was just there to hang the speed-limit sign.  I am sure there will always be speeders.

By the way, Kris, you must be doing this right.  You popped up in my "Daily Newspaper", the Google Keyword Alerts.

Kris, The pleasure was mine!  It was a joy to meet a fellow blogger.  I found myself thinking about how much we've all learned through Active Rain when you shared so many great insights and answers!  Gwyn is a lady whom I've always enjoyed learning from.  It was wonderful to share a teaching assignment with a woman who I admire.  Thank you so much for attending the class & sharing your experience! I hope that we'll have the opportunity to visit you in your neck of the woods too. :)

Cynthia:   Lola was kind enough to offer me her home to sleep the night before class, but as I had a home inspection the evening before I decided just to head out early in the a.m.  She is fabulous and it was hands down the best con-ed I've ever had.

Gwyn:  If you hadn't told us that this was the first time you've used props for your class I doubt any of us would have know it.  I know you were trying to get comfy with the power point presentation, but it didn't show!   Thank YOU again for the education and the pleasure of your company.

Teri:   I am very lucky and blessed to have met them both. You would like them both very much!  Gwyn is teaching the required Ethics training and I know is traveling out of state for some classes.  Perhaps you can convince her to come to your area?  You would love her.

Lola:  I was thinking much of the blessed we are here to not only have the opportunity to learn so much, but the sharing of others is so freely given that it still amazes me.  To have finally met you was icing on the cake so to speak.  You are a gifted speaker, a talented educator and beautiful inside and out!  My peers on the eastern side of the state would be blessed to have you come her to teach and speak.

Duane:  Wish you could have been there.  It was wonderful!
