There is so much information on the internet, and much of it is either misleading or flat out wrong! 

Can you say ZILLOW
?   I wish my home is worth what Zillow has it valued at.  If I didn't have the background knowledge in real estate, I would get excited... very, very excited.  But I know better.

If you are wondering what your home is worth, I implore you... Skip the Propaganda!  Hire a professional real estate agent who knows the market and can give you a realistic value for your home. 

If you are a prospective home buyer, hire a professional.  They can protect and guide you so you don't overpay for a home.

I would never try to do my taxes without professional help.
I would never try to navigate my insurance options without professional help.
I would never plan a major trip without professional help.
I certainly would never buy or sell a home without professional help.

As I always say:
Information is FREE.  Knowledge, Experience & Integrity Are Priceless!

Make sure, when you are making a decision that you are receiving information of the priceless kind. Hire a professional.  The value will far outweigh the cost, as you walk the tightrope of buying or selling real estate.  I prefer to think of "cost" as an "investment" in making the best decision for my situation.

Keep in mind; I am a retired agent and property manager.  I have nothing to gain by saying hire a professional. I just know, from experience, it's the prudent thing to do.

There are agents like that in EVERY market.  They take the listing thinking the seller will eventually lower the price.  In the meantime, everyone wastes their time.

Hi Carol, very well said.  Even the Z website says has several disclaimers about it's accuracy.  I know I wouldn't want to rely on something that was incorrect 20-25% of the time.  Home sellers shouldn't either. Have a great day.

Great post Carol Williams  sellers can use these sites to get ideas for worth but let's face it Zillow has never walked inside your home and has no idea the condition of the houses they give estimates of ..  If you want true value hire a professional

The problem is that media sources and now the Internet have always been an influential sourcing for just about every subject. It is feedback and input!  One thing rings true however is that there is no substitute for experience and professionals. It all begins/ends there and this is as it should be. Subjective too

The pendulum swings both ways. Zillow can be too high but they can also undervalue properties too. It's simply unreliable information. Kudos for telling it like it is.

Hi Carol: I am sitting in a locale that is witness to the damage that Z can do to real estate markets! Until recently, like maybe 2013, Z had no impact here--they were so far afield in their awareness that the Hamptons even existed before that that we were left to our own devices in terms of pricing properties. However, after they learned of this amazing place they began "pricing" properties here on their website, as their zestimates. That little move began the destruction of our marketplace because the average buyer now goes to Z to see where prices are in this area!! The prices were so distorted on Z that the buyers, with money of course, began to do stupid things: Like buying a house that backs up to a shooting range for $4.5mil, or buying a house that backs up to railroad tracks for $5mil...and on and on. The damage done here can not be estimated---all I can say is there is a dearth of buyers now; no one wants to buy now because prices went to the extreme and the public became aware of that in the last 8  months. Guess what? NO ONE IS BUYING ANYTHING here any more! It is a second home market but Geeeeze the prices went to the outer stratosphere! I know that it will come back but people are losing their homes now---the high end has been crushed and the mid-priced homes are now $3mil!! After price drops of 15-20%, they are still over priced....This is a bubble unlike any other and who knows where this one goes???
