A Visit to the Ballona Discovery Park in Playa Vista CA
We enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Ballona Discovery Park in Playa Vista, a community now known as “Silicon Beach,” in the West LA area Friday afternoon.
We were at the park with our younger daughter, her husband, our 2 grandchildren, and our son-in-law’s Mom who was visiting, for a photo shoot for their annual Christmas card. Their photographer has done photos for them in the past, and for our older daughter and her family for the holidays on more than one occasion, and it was great fun to watch her at work, especially with young kids who do not always cooperate…her photos are always beautiful. The kids had a great time but it was also fun to explore, a little, all that this community park offers.
If you live in the general area, or are ever visiting Playa Vista or adjacent Playa del Rey (where one of our favorite inns, the Inn at Playa del Rey, is located), this is a wonderful community park to explore with kids and to learn more about the Ballona Wetlands.
Ballona Discovery Park, a “museum without walls” (from their website) is part of the Friends of Ballona Wetlands, an organization established in 1978 to save and preserve what they could of LA’s 2000-acre coastal wetlands area just south of Marina del Rey. It’s a wonderful way to learn more about our natural habitats in urban areas, especially wetlands, and the ways they have been (and can be) preserved.
