  • Interest, initiative, and curiosity are crucial. 31% of employers look for their candidates to take initiative, and a whopping 47% of interviewers said that they would not progress to a job offer if the candidate demonstrated a lack of knowledge about the company.
 
Appearance Matters, Too
Even the most creative, personable, and ambitious candidates will be at a disadvantage without the proper presentation. Think of your clothing and your physical appearance as the decorative wrapping paper for a package full of fantastic qualities—a gift that doesn’t look great on the outside will be less appealing despite its contents.
 
Dress appropriately for the company. If you’re uncertain of the position’s typical dress code, play it safe and dress up rather than down. Keep your hair neat, your nails clean, and avoid cloying or overpowering fragrances. Show your interviewer that you take pride in your appearance!
Plus, don’t forget body language. Recruiters don’t want to see you playing with your hair or fiddling. Smile, make eye contact, and demonstrate confidence.
 
Practice, Practice, Practice
Just because HR interview day is all about you doesn’t mean that it’s going to be easy. Because interview difficulty has actually been linked to future employee satisfaction, many companies will adhere to the optimal interview difficulty: four out of five, with five being the most difficult.
To get a head start, prepare for a challenging interview day by considering genuine responses to questions like:
  1. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  2. Are there any changes you would like to implement if you are hired?
  3. Do you have any questions for us?
