Think Thin Thursday ~ What Else Do You Need?

Thinking back to my early days of gym workouts it was always a buddy thing. We push each other to lift more or do more reps at each workout. Logging everything we did to have a path to show where we had been. It was a lot simpler then. A t-shirt and some gym shorts were all we needed along with Chuck Taylor high tops. Now we have high performance fabrics, underwear, copper infused everything, compression fit clothes and of course fashion inspiration in our garb. One piece of equipment which is often overlooked is our shoes or more specifically our feet. When we workout they need to provide support and stability above & beyond their usual requirement. An investment in proper footwear can up your confidence and with that your performance.

Everything has evolved into a special purpose product and this isn't necessarily a bad thing but it does make choosing the right tool for the job somewhat cumbersome at times. For those of you who are boycotting Nike that's understandable even though their shoes remain highly recommended. My personal preference is New Balance although many players have fought hard to give you excellent results in most of your favorite manufacturers and a couple new ones too. Know that a good weightlifting shoe will be a more snug fit in the toe area and the heel should be much more firm than your running shoes with stiffer side pieces for support. A good crossfit type shoe can deliver for your aerobic activity with greater control on the treadmill and substitute as a running shoe at shorter distances. Some are ugly while others are also the epitome of fashion & performance. Make sure you try them on and move around in them before purchasing. Many are priced well into the hundreds with some being much less. The dollar amount is irrelevant to the capability, stability or longevity of the shoe. The important part is that they fit properly and are comfortable first and foremost because if they aren't you won't want to wear them.

Hi Kevin - workout shoes are so important with all the impact sports our kids and we participate in. Thanks for the tip on New Balance sneakers.

Good morning Kevin. How did we survive with just a t-shirt, gym shorts and our Converse All-Stars for all those years? Enjoy your day!

I am all about the pair that doesn't hurt my feet.  Sadly, my workouts mostly consist of walking from here to there and everywhere.
