Good morning, George... those statistics you cited are simply horrifying! And so preventable when you think about it... that's the real shame of it.

Hi George

I knew the stats were high but this surprises me. And it's so easy to take care of to maximize safety. While smoke detectors are required here I suspect there are plenty of homes that do not have them, or they are not working for one reason or another.

Looks like a wonderful event to provide further education to residents and remind them of these important services in the community.

What a great way to have an open house at a fire station.  One year I got very involved with fire safety with children in our schools and arranged for a "mini" house to be brought to schools... the elementary kids toured the rooms and learned about potential fires in each room of their home and what to do.  It was a lot of fun.  My granddaughter was in kindergarten that year, I have her pic, going through the fire house.  She's an agent with our office now.. so that was 19 years ago!

George Souto - With all the dry air, dry leaves on the ground, and no moisture, it's the perfect combination for fires. Let's hope everyone does their part to prevent fires.
