. We began our day Saturday being a part of the crew that was harvesting petite pearl grapes at Sandy Johnson and her husband Randy's vineyard. It has been the fulfillment of a dream and began as dreams do...with just an idea...a few little vines and has now become The Spirits of Norway Vineyard that has won awards in state and international competition. Over 600 vines span the landscape and last year....what started as an idea for a garden...bore the fruit of bronze, silver and gold medal awards in international competition.
Last year the vineyard had a yield of 0ver 8,500 pounds of fruit. This is Sandy....who has studied hard and completed winemaking and advanced winemaking certifications. There are many layers of governmental controls/hurdles that she and her husband have overcome to be able to sell their wines in retail stores as well as in bars and ship them to customers as well.
You can see the vines here...some waiting for our clippers this morning and some that have already been harvested. The crew hopes this
be a record harvest with all the rain that we have had ....we are thinking that could be possible !
Sandy's boundless energy and enthusiasm is evident in the variety of wines that they have in three different collections.
The Estate Collection includes Brianna (which earned a gold medal at the New York World Wine and Spirits Competition in 2017. Marquette, Petite Pearl, Frontenac Blanc and Somerset Rose.
The International Favorites include concentrations from Australia, Italy and Chile with a variety of full bodied flavors with everything from root vegetables to coffee, nuts and berries.
Domestic Favorites include Chardonnay, a variety of Merlots, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir....everything you would expect....and some pleasant tasting surprises as well.
Summer festivals and events will find the Spirits of Norway traveling by "Wine Truck". The "fleet" is now up to two trucks you can find at events throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
