Back To The Old Address Book…

It just may come down to this. Since the digital cloud, etc, I’ve done my best to adapt and do away with as much paper as I could. That said, I always have cloud storageback-ups and believe in redundancy.

However, I spent almost one and one-half hours on the phone with Apple Support trying to figure out what happened to several of my contacts.

Last week I received a text from the “713” area code but no name was attached to it. When I opened the text there was a thread that I’d sent to a good friend in Houston. What had happened to her information?

When I went to my Contacts, she was nowhere to be found.

Since then I’ve discovered 4 more contacts who are not on my phone or in my contacts in the Cloud. I will have no idea how many other contacts may have vanished until I either go to look for them or someone on the missing list contacts me.

While I was on the phone with the first customer support person, I mumbled something about going back to an old-fashioned address book. To my surprise, she said that it was something that she herself might look into!

At any rate, we toggled, and restored, and searched and looked but no one has come up with an answer. |

My thought was that it had something to do with the recent IOS12 update but had no verification of that.

I did find a post on some solutions when I searched the web and after trying one of the solutions, I did find some of my missing contacts.

I have decided not to sweat the small stuff because it’s just not worth it.

I am considering dusting off my trusty book that has always served me well. It's over 20+ years old but the pages are still there.

Sorry to hear of your experience Kathy. I have a love/distrust relationship with technology. It is great when it works, but very frustrating when it doesn't!

Kathy,

Glad Apple was able to help you restore your contacts, and a paper back up helps also.  A

I have backup on top of backup, but often rely on old paper stuff still hanging around which would otherwise be haunting me.

Good afternoon Kathy. Always wise to have a backup and a paper trail too.

I still have an old address book in a drawer. It saddens me every time I open to read half the entries are dead. Yet, I don't toss it.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR thank goodness I still have my old one too. It's really weird how some are missing and others are still there.

Wayne Martin I still think it has something to do with a recent update.

Michael Jacobs I agree. In the past I might have but in the big scheme of things, I can reach everyone I need to. (I think!)

What a bummer! I do still have a good old fashion address book, though many of the addresses are outdated, and I also have an excel sheet along with my phone contacts. Technology is only so good... -Kasey

Kathy that may seem like something small but it is annoying.  Buy the way we have a physical address book for all the important addresses and dates

Morning Kathy.

Hi Kathy, I also lost some contacts on my cell phone which was not backed up on hard copy.  I am wary about a lot of digital info that seems to degrade over time.  I looked up an old video I posted on YouTube and the quality has deteriorated.  Amazing.  Of course you should back everything up but the effort to keep track of your digital footprint is overwhelming and I can see going to pencil and paper again if things continue to get lost, etc.
