Wordless Wednesday - White Pumpkins, the New Orange!

All around Charlotte, we're seeing some pretty eerie-looking white pumpkins — naturally white, not the painted ceramic kind either! They are harvested from the Cucurbita maxima seed.

These interesting delights are finding their way into more and more homes this Halloween season. Ghost Pumpkins, as they are most commonly known, are  albinos and are sometimes referred to as Snowballs, Luminas or Caspers — you know, the friendly ghost pumpkin!

Albino Pumpkins

Don’t worry, if you’re into cooking the flesh, these are also bright orange on the inside! And, if your into decorating pumpkins for the season - these offer the perfect palette for painting or carving your most ghoulish fall pumpkin!

There are lots of white ones here...and we were just talking the other day...for a few years there were pink ones that donated a part of their sales profit to breast cancer but have not seen them this year.

I like white pumpkins.  I've bought several over the years.  The one you have pictured is really neat.

Debe, we had White Pumpkins for many years, in all fairness ours are "fake" I prefer the Orange Pumpkins for being traditional, so you just might have reminded me to get one for our front entrance, Endre

LOL Marte Cliff at the mail lady comment! You know, what is funny is that I love decorating and I enjoy it when I drive up and it's dark and my lights are on! I think I decorate more for me! Ha!

I passed by the pumpkin patch earlier today, Grant Schneider and thought I'd stop and pick one up but, was anxious to get home! Maybe tomorrow!

Last year was the first time I saw them, George Souto! Be on the look-out - I'll bet you'll spot a few in your area too.

Isn't that a cool one, Myrl Jeffcoat?! I plan to pick one up before Halloween but, haven't yet. They are in most of the pumpkin patches here this year though.

Great observation, Susan Haughton - perhaps that is what possessed me to snap a shot of this one. It really does make the color pop!

Debe - I know what you mean. Some years I put Christmas lights at the front of the house, even knowing that my husband and I will be the only ones who will see them. I walk out after dark to feed Mr. Horse, and it's nice to see them on the return trip.

I think they are cool for decorating.  I see white pumpkins here as well. The squirrels eat my pumpkins and make a royal mess ... so I won't be putting any out this year.
