Spider Research! Who Knew.....

By

Okay, first off...this is an odd post, but so fitting with October being full of witchcraft, spiders, creepy things and such.

(Stay with me, it's worth watching the included video).

I was on my front porch sitting on my papasan relaxing, and when I got up, I happened to notice (thank God) that there was a fairly sizeable spider hanging out with me!

Being afraid of spiders, I immediately parked him on the lawn down the front steps. I watched him turn in the exact direction of where he'd been as he ceremoniously made his way back to his original "post", a wooden log that is part of our newish log porch built earlier this year. I found it fascinating that he was so diligent in making his way back there, and persevered even though he found it difficult to navigate the vertical sides of many of my pots on his path home. Eventually, he made it home and seemed to be quite exhausted. So, I took photos of him in his static state. (Of course! I'm always intrigued by nature).

In trying to discover what kind of spider he is, I happened upon this video below. Gotta say, I was drawn in as if it were truly spider research. Even if you don't like spiders (I don't, either, but am morbidly fascinated none-the-less), please watch this...and you will discover for yourself how pleasantly surprising this tongue-in-cheek mockumentary of spiders' behaviors is while  they are"under the influence".

It caught me in its web....

 a good laugh!

HI Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate - This is so funny.  I took a pick of a spider that really looked different a couple of days ago. Not really a spider fan.  I said to myself, why did I take that picture, I probably am never going to post it anywhere!  TA DA!!! ( It was trying to spin silk on the window!)spider on window

Gayle,

Like Bob Ratliff Ron relocates the spiders we finds in the house to the great outdoors.  I once went on a listing appointment with a client, and the house was full of webs.  The owners left them there insisting that they were doing their job of keeping insects at bay, and they wanted twice what the property was worth...LOL A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel Hey, it's just like letting the chameleons in the house in Florida... And a client taught me that if you relocate true house spiders outdoors, they won't survive. I'm just not too keen on trying to distinguish them!

Joe Pryor I actually like snakes! It's usually two sided when it comes to these fears, either snakes OR spiders, but not often both, from my own unprofessional research.

Lauren Williams, CPO dock spiders were always the biggest that I ever saw. Up at our cottage at the Thousand Islands (between Canada and NY), is where I always saw them. It was a very rustic cabin years ago, with an outhouse and I came to hate these buggers because it was so creepy going out there, especially after dark with one single light bulb and lots of bugs. They were inside, too and I always worried that while I was sleeping one would drop down on me! Thus my fear of these crawly guys.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® that actually looks more like the images of the spiders that came up while I was googling for more info. I have been taking videos and photos of spiders often this summer for some reason! This almost looks like you blurred out his face, so no one would recognize him...haha! Love YOUR new profile, by the way.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel even though they do creep me out, I feel sorry for them when they get "stuck" somewhere and can't get out. But, those owners sounded a bit over-the-top as to their "web design"...haha!

OMG, the marijuana spider built a hammock - HILARIOUS, Gayle! And then he sought refuge in the crack spiders web and became his b__! I'm still laughing!

Oh, how I detest spiders but, they are fascinating and I'm so glad I watched the video! Thanks for the Friday funny, Gayle!

Debe Maxwell, CRS I laugh more each time I watch it!!! Loved it all. So glad that you decided to bypass your feelings about them enough to watch the video. Worth it, I think!!

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD wasn't sure if it was appropriate, but I figured what-the-heck, it's a YouTube video, so there ya go. Bummer about your sore throat--happens so much with traveling, I think.

Vacation was absolute PERFECTION. One of my best ever.

That was funny video Gayle.  Thank you!

I too am like you, appreciate spiders but want them far away from me.  Recently a friend of mine walked into a large web on a country path with a large spider as we were taking a stroll.  We were both screaming!!!

Mimi Foster gotta love a sick sense of humor! (I was telling some friends about this last night and one of my pals said, "Someone has too much time on their hands"). I thought it was very creative.

Gloria Todor Here's a nicer version of a spider to ponder:
