Utah Continues to Lead the Nation in Housing Appreciation!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams/Mountain Town Realty Group

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight recently reported that Utah continues to lead the Nation in Housing Appreciation with a Four-Quarter rate, ending Q1 2008,  of 5.6%.  Only Utah and Wyoming had rates over 5% and there were only fourteen states that had negative appreciation, with California, Nevada, Florida and Arizona with the most significant declines. A total of 36 states still had positive growth

Utah remains strong with an economy that is high in Job Growth and a low Unemployment rate.

Many of the states and cities experiencing the sharpest declines were the same states and cities experiencing the sharpest increases over the last several years. Although the short term declines are disturbing, many of the states with 1-3% declines in the last year where still up in the last five years approximately 80%.  For long term homeowners, real estate still produces excellent returns.
