The Neighbourhood
Ramsay Heights is located in the Riverbend area of Edmonton. It is bordered by the North Saskatchewan River Valley to the west, Terwillegar Drive and Whitemud Drive to the east, 40 Ave to the south and 51 Ave to the north. The neighbourhood is centered around James Ramsey Park. James Ramsey was an alderman and MLA and a retailing pioneer in Edmonton's history. He opened the first departmental store in Edmonton on the ground floor of the Tegler Building in 1911. The business was sold to the T. Eaton Company in 1928. A high elevation point in Ramsey Park provides a panoramic view of Edmonton.
The neighbourhood of Ramsay Heights is named after Walter Ramsay (unrelated to James Ramsey) who was a teacher and Edmonton's first commercial florist and greenhouse operator in the early 1900s. Ramsay Heights was mostly developed between 1970 and 1990. The neighbourhood is laid out to promote pedestrian and bicycle movement with homes located in numerous cul-de-sacs feeding into the main collector roadway, Riverbend Road.
The population of Ramsay Heights is approximately 3,500 and there are 1,300 residences. Most homes are single family (52%), apartments (33%), townhomes and duplexes (15%).
Schools and Amenities
There are no schools within Ramsay Heights but there are several junior and high schools located within 3 km of the community. The main recreational site is James Ramsey Park.
The large Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre located in nearby Leger features an aquatic centre, fitness, sports, wellness, arts and leadership programs.

The Ramsay Heights residential market activity has seen more sales of single family homes than condominiums compared to this period last year, which is reflected in a higher average home price and price per SF. Average days on market for the homes that sold in September was under three weeks. Inventory remains high as only the best priced properties are selling.
