Is that my catalytic convertor in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

My daughter called me early a morning last week and said "Dad?", with that tiny voice... all you dads reading this know that 'tiny voice'... the one that says "something's wrong".

"What's wrong?" I asked...

"I went to start my car, this morning, heading to work, and it's making a funny noise."

"What kind of noise?"

"It sounds like there's a Harley Davidson revving in my trunk", she replied.  (vivid imagery there, huh?)

"Oh... sounds like your muffler." said I, perhaps too confidently.

"But the 'check engine' light is on, too."

"Oh"... my diagnosis as a muffler suddenly deflated.

She took the car into her repair shop... and it turns out that while parked overnight on the street, someone had stolen her catalytic convertor.  That's right.  They just cut her converter out of the entire exhaust system, and vanished into the night.

It's going to cost somewhere between $1,200-$2,300 to replace her entire exhaust sytem (except for the muffler, which can be reused) because of the sloppy way they cut her converter from the belly of the car... damaging the entire exhaust system.

The good news.... yes, there's good news... it's covered by insurance, with zero deductible.

The bad news... she's lost her faith in humanity.

I hate when that happens. Seriously, it is too bad that this happened to her. It does make you lose faith. Unfortunately, there have always been and always will be some bad people.

Alan, yes it is sad to find out what  so of mankind is like, I am sure this was not the first time she discovered it and sadly it will not be the last time. The good news is you can reassure her that there are more good ones than bad ones, Endre

Morning Alan.

I thought that one ended long ago, apparently it has not.  Out of all of this the saddest thing is, that she lost her faith in humanity.

That's just terrible. What makes someone think they can just take whatever they want? Hopefully your daughter will regain her belief in humanity at some point. Most people are good.

It makes you think that this was a thief who was not an entrepreneur who thinks big. For me why not take the whole car?
