Guest posting and you

back linkingLet's talk a litte about guest posting and why it is so important for you and your website.  As everybody knows backlinks to your website are important.  It does not matter if it is a static website or a blog website.  Links to your website matter.  Of course backlinks from high ranking sites are the best however every link you get helps in the diversity and who knows some day that low ranking site may become high ranking.  Then it will really help your site.  In my opinion every link helps because you have diversity of sites.  Of course the higher ranking website the back link comes from helps you more.

I get requests all the time to have somebody write a  guest post but the majority of them are from off real estate sites and it does no good for me.  I don't want an article about dogs or purses on my website.   As cute as this dog picture is, it is not relevant to my website.   I want only real estate information on my site.  General buyer and seller guest posts will be good guest posts.

Remember to vary your key words when back linking.  Don't just use the same key word.  If you are really smart you will vary the keywords and also use long tail keywords that are important in your market.  Every once in a while you should even use "click here" or "more info here" if you are back linking from the same site.  Varying your keywords is important.  Google will catch on if you consistently use "White Lake homes for Sale" as the only keyword for your website.

Of course guest posting on blog sites or web sites that are similar to your industry help.  So it may be smart to reach out to other realtors in markets in other states to see if you can guest post.  But here is where it gets tricky.  What is in it for you? The problem is you really should not recipricate guest post.  You see link farming has been gone since about 2009.  Link farming was when you put another person's link on your website in exchange for a link to your website on theirs.  I remember spending weeks swapping links back in 2008 and 2009.  I had over 4000 of them at one time.  Then google changed and you had to quickly remove them all off your sites otherwise you got penalized.  We thought we were slick and then google caught on.

So why should you allow a guest post?  What's in it for you?  In the world of active rain we would do it out of goodness and helping a fellow active rainer.  Remember you have to be careful of becoming a link farm.  So you shouldn't guest post on say

Kathy Streib's website and then have Kathy guest post on yours.

Let's get this straight guest posting on another person's active rain blog site is not what I am talking about.  It's about your personal website or on your personal wordpress blog site.  The key is to write an informative piece perferably over 600 words about buying or selling.  For example "how to stage your kitchen" would be a good guest post.  Informative, and important to anybody in real estate.  That type of post does not need to contain indepth local information.   Using Delray Beach or Palm Beach County in your guest post on Kathy's site would help her.  Then you would have a back link to your website.  You could say something like " it does not matter if you are staging your Delray Beach home or a waterfront house in Oakland County"

I'm lucky I have 4 different high ranking websites that have hundreds and hundreds of pages that rank one of google.  So I can guest post on an Activerainer's website and let them guest post on a different one of my websites.  That way it doesn't create a link farm.

If you have a close relationship or know somebody on active rain, reach out and offer to write a good page or article for their website to get a back link.  It works and will help you. It is a worth while effort and will help your seo.

Russ Ravary ~ Metro Detroit Realtor call (248) 310-6239 I have recently started writing guest posts as I am in the process of redoing my site after a couple of disasters.   Your post has some good tips.  Btw, Kathy Streib is 5 minutes from me and even better in person than she is onlline!

I get a lot of spam requests for guest blogging on my sites and even the vast majority of the emails themselves have problems with grammar and the way they are presented.

As with many things, to get value, you must add value.
