Here are the steps to take if you find yourself stuck with a bunch of clutter that you need to work through quickly and efficiently. Depending on how much clutter you have to deal with, this could take a few days or months.
Realize You Have Enough. "He who knows he has enough is rich.” Chinese Philosopher Lao Tzu. Let's face it, Americans have way more clothes, shoes, movies, books, etc than they need. The sooner you recognize that you have too much of something, the quicker your decluttering project will get done.
Decide which items you have too much of. Here are some ideas - clothes, shoes, books, movies, kitchen gadgets, games, trinkets, sporting equipment, and more.
Once a day, pick 3 items in this category that you can live without. You can pick 3 items our you can choose a certain amount of time to do this step.
Get an "Out Box" - this is the box where you will put your 3 items for the day. Or this is where you will put the items you pick during your allotted time that day. Keep the box in a certain part of the house where you can see it until it's full.
Once your box is full, you have 2 choices. You can either put it in your car and take it to a donation center. Or you can put it in an open space in your basement or extra bedroom where you will accumulate boxes for a garage sale or a large donation center trip.
Once you start collecting items in this manner, you might find that you can do 2 areas a day. Or it might inspire you to declutter for longer periods of time.
Your boxes should fill up quickly if you are diligent in choosing your 3 items per day.
